IPL 2026: RR vs MI - Boy Wonder vs The Best Bowler on the Planet

Mumbai Indians lead the H2H record by 17-13.

IPL 2026: RR vs MI - Match Preview

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi emerged as India’s most-searched personality, according to Google’s Year in Search 2025 report. Google described him as: “A teenage phenomenon. The cricket sensation took the world by storm, emerging as the No. 1 trending personality of 2025 (in India).” The boy wonder since IPL 2025 has gone on to achieve a lot. He's become 'the major talking point' and the world wants to watch him bat. Where have we heard this before? Only a certain Sachin Tendulkar drew such attention. You turn on your device and you want Vaibhav to be batting out there, tearing bowling attacks apart - all this with a smile that spreads cheek to cheek.

In the blue corner, there's a plethora of stars, but one star that outshines everyone is Jasprit Bumrah. The Mumbai Indians side looks dangerously balanced but one sight the fans want to watch over and over again is Bumrah steaming in and uprooting stumps for fun. In a regular world, RR vs MI is a huge clash but in the IPL world, there's no place for normalcy. All eyes will be on Sooryavanshi vs Bumrah. On one side, there's a young teenager who's having the time of his life, drawing all the attention and in the other a quiet genius who does his job better than anyone. The little southpaw has never faced Bumrah in professional cricket. Will the pacer be introduced early against Sooryavanshi - only time will tell, but, boy are we waiting for this contest.

An unstoppable force meets an immovable object at Guwahati. Who do you reckon will come out on top?

PITCH AND CONDITIONS

The average winning first innings score at Barsapara Cricket Stadium is 203. This indicates that the pitch offers a balanced contest between bat and ball. Teams batting first generally aim to post a competitive total around this range, which can set a good tempo for the match.

Only 40% of the matches have been won by the teams batting first at the venue. RR bowled out CSK for 127 and chased down the target at a canter. Win the toss and bowl first?

We might see similar conditions on match-day, with a forecast of rain in the afternoon and clear skies by 6pm.

KEY PLAYERS

  1. Yashasvi Jaiswal Jaiswal is in outstanding form and continues to be the pillar of the Royals’ top order. In just two matches this season, he has already scored 93 runs. His composed yet attacking 55 off 36 balls against Gujarat Titans highlighted his ability to blend aggression with the responsibility of holding the innings together. With his dominance in the power-play, he poses a major threat to Mumbai Indians’ new-ball attack. Against Mumbai Jaiswal becomes an absolute beast. His S/R of 177.24 is his highest against a team in the IPL.

Jaiswal vs Mumbai Indians in the IPL: Inns - 8 , Runs - 296, Avg - 42.28, S/R - 177.24

  1. Tilak Varma

The Mumbai Indians southpaw is one of their mainstays in the middle-order and he's up for a big one. The left-handed batter fancies the Royals in the IPL. He's smashed 222 runs at an average of 55.5 and a strike-rate of 140.5 against the Rajasthan Royals. IPL 2026 is his 5th season and he's scored over 300 runs in all the four seasons. He'll be the one to watch out for.

TEAM NEWS & PROBABLE XIIs

RR’s batting unit powered them to 210 against GT, and their bowlers held their nerve to seal a narrow win. With a balanced performance, they are likely to stick with the same playing XI. RR: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel (wk), Riyan Parag (c), 5 Shimron Hetmyer, Donovan Ferreira, Ravindra Jadeja, Jofra Archer, Nandre Burger, Ravi Bishnoi, Tushar Deshpande Impact Player: Sandeep Sharma.

Hardik Pandya remains the most crucial piece for his side, be it MI or India. He missed the game against DC due to illness, forcing MI to bring in Corbin Bosch and Deepak Chahar as replacements. However, Pandya has since resumed bowling in the Guwahati nets and is expected to return, likely replacing Chahar. If that happens, Trent Boult could also come back into the XI in place of Bosch.

MI: Rohit Sharma, Ryan Rickelton (wk), Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav, Naman Dhir, Hardik Pandya (capt), Sherfane Rutherford, Mitchell Santner, Shardul Thakur, Trent Boult, Mayank Markande/Ashwani Kumar Impact Player: Jasprit Bumrah.

RR vs MI promises to be a humdinger. Can the Royals win three on the bounce and take the top spot or will the Mumbai Indians fight back after a defeat against Delhi Capitals. Comment and tell us which side you are rooting for today. Buy the MI fan jersey now. Click here.
