IPL 2026: Chennai Super Kings - Know Your Players

Who will be Chennai Super Kings star youngster this season?

Chennai Super Kings - Know Your Players

At the IPL 2026 auction, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) aggressively pivoted towards youth, spending a massive ₹28.4 crore on uncapped players Prashant Veer (₹14.2 cr) and Kartik Sharma (₹14.2 cr), making them the most expensive uncapped buys ever. They utilized their ₹43.40 crore purse to add depth, including spinners Rahul Chahar, Akeal Hosein, and pace-bowling options, departing from their usual experience-heavy strategy.

Kartik Sharma

Hailing from Bharatpur, Rajasthan, Kartik Sharma made headlines by becoming one of the joint-most expensive players in IPL auction history, with Chennai Super Kings securing him for a staggering INR 14.2 crore at the 2026 auction. A wicketkeeper-batter known for his clean power and six-hitting ability, he shot to prominence following that surprise bid.

Kartik topped the six-hitting charts in the 2024/25 Vijay Hazare Trophy and finished as the joint third-highest six-hitter in the 2025–26 Ranji Trophy. Having trained with the CSK squad during IPL 2025, he showcased his ability to take on even top-quality bowlers with ease, which likely influenced the franchise’s strong backing.

Now part of a seasoned CSK setup, Kartik will be keen to learn from experienced players and translate his domestic success onto the IPL stage in 2026. We saw glimpses of what he could do in CSK's season opener, can he make this season count?

Prashant Veer

Matching the final bid of his new teammate Kartik Sharma, Prashant became one of the joint-most expensive players in IPL auction history after Chennai Super Kings signed him for a remarkable INR 14.2 crore in the 2026 auction. A left-handed batter with a strong six-hitting ability and a handy slow left-arm orthodox option, he is viewed as a potential successor to Ravindra Jadeja.

CSK, a franchise known for backing young talent, identified immense potential in the 20-year-old following impressive performances at a trial last year and consistent displays in BCCI Under-23 tournaments. Remarkably, in the lead-up to the auction, he played six matches in seven days, balancing commitments between the U-23 State-A One-Day Trophy and the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

With his fearless approach and all-round versatility, Prashant has already shown he can be a valuable asset in T20 cricket. Now, he steps onto the IPL stage with the opportunity to establish himself as a key lower-order contributor for the five-time champions. Will he get a chance today when the Super Kings take on Punjab?

Ramakrishna Ghosh

A pace-bowling all-rounder from Maharashtra, Ramakrishna Ghosh has shown promising flashes in domestic cricket. Having previously played alongside CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad at the domestic level and gained exposure in dressing rooms with experienced players, he will be looking to make a strong impression in IPL 2026 if given the chance.

CSK secured his services for INR 30 lakh at the IPL 2025 Mega Auction. A right-handed batter known for his aggressive stroke play and a useful medium-pacer, Ghosh first made a mark with his ability to perform under pressure, particularly in the death overs. In late 2025, he achieved a rare feat by becoming only the 12th player to take seven or more wickets in a single Vijay Hazare Trophy match.

Gurjapneet Singh

Standing at 6'3", Gurjapneet Singh is a left-arm medium pacer from Punjab who moved to Chennai at 17 and previously served as a net bowler for both CSK and the Indian team. Known for his ability to swing the new ball both ways, generate movement, and extract extra bounce, he offers valuable variety to any pace attack.

The 27-year-old impressed in the 2025–26 Duleep Trophy, picking up 10 wickets in just two matches at an average of 24.10, including two four-wicket hauls. His performances earned him a spot in the India A squad later that year for the unofficial ODI series against Australia A.

CSK signed Gurjapneet for INR 2.2 crore at the 2025 IPL Auction, but he didn’t feature in a game last season. Now, he will be hoping that IPL 2026 provides the opportunity for his long-awaited debut.
