Lakshya Sen Falls in the Finals but the World Will Remember his Effort

This was Lakshya Sen's 2nd All England Finals. The Indian finished 2nd best in the 2022 edition as well.

Lakshya Sen Falls in the Finals, Loses 15-21, 20-22 against Lin Chun-Yi

Lakshya Sen's run to the final of the All England Open Championships was characterized by a series of high-stakes victories that revitalized interest in Indian badminton. Entering the tournament as world No. 12, the 24-year-old’s campaign began with a significant upset when he defeated the defending champion and world No. 1, Shi Yu Qi of China, in the opening round. He maintained this momentum in the second round by securing his first-ever win against Hong Kong's NG Ka Long Angus.

Sen overcame Canada's Victor Lai (No. 16) in a "most energy sapping" three-game match featuring approximately 90 short rallies. Although Sen ultimately lost the final to Chinese Taipei's Lin Chun-Yi (15-21, 20-22), his performance earned high praise for his resilience, mental fortitude, and emotional maturity. His coach, Vimal Kumar, noted that muscle fatigue in the shoulders from the preceding four tough matches prevented Sen from playing at his full potential during the final.

PV Sindhu was all praises for Lakshya Sen

"Never easy to come back and play a final less than 24 hours after a brutal semifinal. Those matches really stay in the legs.

I remember the 2021 All England Open Badminton Championships. I had a really long quarterfinal against Akane Yamaguchi, and the very next day had to step back on court for the semifinal against Pornpawee Chochuwong. Let me tell you, it’s brutal", said Sindhu on X.

The two-time Olympic medalist added, "Lakshya still had a phenomenal week. Beating Shi Yuqi and Li Shifeng in the same tournament says a lot about the level he’s playing at.

Tough loss, but smile Lakshya. For the general public, the All England Open Badminton Championships is often seen as the pinnacle because of its history and aura. But on the tour it is one of the four Super 1000 events we play every year, and opportunities keep coming."

"With the kind of skill Lakshya has, weeks like this will keep repeating. Hopefully this momentum carries through the rest of the Super 1000s this season as well."

A summary of Lakshya Sen's Journey to the All England Finals

Lakshya Sen's journey to the final was spectacular. The Indian played some of his finest badminton in the tournament.

Beyond the results, the tournament showcased technical improvements in Sen's game, specifically in shot selection, net play, and the timing of his smashes following a previous shoulder surgery. Coach Kumar emphasized that Sen's attitude was the most significant takeaway from the tournament, marking a strong comeback after a "topsy-turvy" 2025 season.
