IPL 2026: SRH vs KKR - Can the Hyderabad Bowling attack Rise High?

Which team will come out on top when KKR and SRH meet?

IPL 2026: KKR vs SRH - Match Preview

Both Kolkata Knight Riders and SunRisers Hyderabad scored 200+ and both were beaten comprehensively. What was very obvious was that both teams lacked potency and looked out of the game right from the very first delivery of their defence. While the Knight Riders can fall back on the attack that has been effective in the past, the SunRisers look completely out of sorts. Harshal Patel, Jaydev Unadkat and David Payne are all similar type of bowlers and seem to be effective only when there's proper control/attack at the other end. Pat Cummins is not expected to be back anytime soon and Brydon Carse, their only 'pace' bowler is likely to miss out the KKR fixture as well.

KKR have begun IPL 2026 with a bowling attack weakened by injuries and unavailable players, and that vulnerability was exposed in their opening game. Mumbai Indians comfortably chased down 221, with pacers like Blessing Muzarabani, Vaibhav Arora, and Kartik Tyagi failing to make any impact.

Cameron Green is not contributing with the ball and is unlikely to do so against SRH, leaving KKR with what appears to be one of the least threatening pace attacks in the tournament. More worrying, however, is the lack of bite from their usually dependable spin duo. Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy, often KKR’s biggest strength, struggled to trouble MI and now face a stern test against SRH’s powerful, spin-hitting top order.

That said, there is still reason for optimism. Both Narine and Varun have strong records at Eden Gardens—Narine holds the record for most T20 wickets at the venue, while Varun ranks fourth with 34 wickets in 24 matches. A return to familiar conditions could yet help KKR’s main bowlers rediscover their edge.

Pitch Conditions

The average first innings score at Eden Gardens since 2019 is approximately 180 runs. With such explosive batting units and also considering the struggles in the bowling attacks, that number is certainly going to be smashed.

Chasing is the way to go at the Eden. Teams batting second have won 56% of the fixtures.

KKR vs SRH: Key Players

Angkrish Raghuvanshi (KKR)

Angkrish is no longer just a “prospect”—he’s a match-winner. He's started the 2026 season with a bang, smashing 51 off 29 balls against MI. Raghuvanshi also hammered an unbeaten 103 off 55 balls in an intra-squad practice game at Eden Gardens, making him KKR’s preferred choice for the No. 3 spot. He has a smooth, effortless style but possesses a high scoring rate of 147.28 in the IPL. The right-hander has developed the maturity to anchor an innings if early wickets fall, or to shift gears instantly to punish spinners in the middle overs. Eshan Malinga (SRH)

The young Sri Lankan, often noted for his high-arm action and deceptive pace, has become an integral part of the Hyderabad set up. In his short IPL career, he’s already grabbed 13 wickets, including a standout 3/31 specifically against KKR last season. While he went wicketless in the 2026 season opener against RCB (conceding 35 runs), his historical success against Kolkata makes him a “player to watch” for this fixture.

Aniket Verma (SRH) Verma emerged as one of SRH’s standout performers in IPL 2025, highlighted by an impressive strike-rate of 166.19. The right-hander had a modest Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy campaign for Madhya Pradesh, scoring 120 runs in nine innings but it hasn’t impacted his IPL rhythm, as seen in his explosive 43 off 18 balls in the 2026 opener. In a batting line-up filled with big hitters, Aniket might not always grab the spotlight, but he remains a vital piece in SRH’s power-packed unit.

Finn Allen (KKR) Meanwhile, Finn Allen quickly silenced any doubts about his IPL debut with a brisk 37 off 17 balls against MI. He's scored the most runs in 2026, amassing 732 runs in 17 innings at an average of 48.80 and a remarkable strike-rate of 193.13. Allen also has special memories at Eden Gardens, having smashed an unbeaten 100 off just 33 balls against South Africa in the semi-final of the 2026 T20 World Cup, leading New Zealand to chase down 170 in just 12.5 overs.
